Soul-to-Soul: Goals for You and Your Pet to Tackle Together
Whether we are stepping into a fresh month, a new season, or just a random Tuesday, there is never a wrong time to reset. Often, when we think about personal growth, we view it as a solitary journey—we look in the mirror and decide what we want to change. But if you share your home with an animal, you aren’t on a solitary path.
As an animal communicator who has been hearing the thoughts and feelings of our non-human companions since I was three years old, I’ve seen firsthand how much our pets want to be part of our “big picture.” To an animal, there is no “my life” and “your life.” There is only our life. When we decide to get healthy, find peace, or speak more kindly to ourselves, our pets feel that shift in our energy. They want to support us, and quite frankly, they usually want to join in!
Incorporating your pet into your goals doesn’t have to be another chore on your to-do list. In fact, it makes your progress easier to sustain because you have a partner who never judges you and is always ready to participate.
Shift Your Focus: From Sprints to Sustainability
The secret to lasting change is shifting the focus from intense, short-term bursts to long-term habits. Instead of a “fix-it” mindset, think of these as lifestyle shifts you and your pet can maintain year-round.
To ensure your intentions stick, make them actionable by using the SMART method:
- Specific: Define exactly what you want to do (e.g., “Walk for 15 minutes” rather than “Exercise more”).
- Measurable: How will you track your progress?
- Achievable: Keep it realistic for both you and your pet’s current physical abilities.
- Relevant: Does this improve your shared bond and quality of life?
- Time-Bound: Give yourself a clear daily or weekly rhythm.
Categorize Your Shared Intentions
To create a balanced, high-vibration life, it helps to categorize your goals into these key areas:
- Health: Nutrition, vitality, and physical wellness.
- Career & Focus: Creating productive routines and calm workspaces.
- Relationships: Deepening the heart-connection and trust between you.
- Personal Growth: Mindful presence, emotional clearing, and patience.
1. High-Vibration Nutrition: Eating Better, Together
We often think of healthy eating as a restrictive, lonely process. But in the animal kingdom, sharing food is one of the deepest signs of trust and community.
- The Shared Goal: Elevate the quality of the “fuel” you both put into your bodies.
- Actionable Advice: Focus on building a new daily habit rather than a single large result. When you’re prepping your healthy salad or steamed veggies, share the pet-safe scraps! A crunch of a bell pepper, a slice of cucumber, or a couple of blueberries can be a “living food” boost for your dog or cat.
- The Communicator’s View: I’ve felt the sluggishness in animals who are fed the same processed food day after day. When you introduce fresh snacks while you eat your own healthy meals, you’re telling your pet, “I value your vitality as much as my own.” It turns a “diet” into a shared celebration of health.
2. Mindful Movement: Exercise as Connection
Instead of viewing your workout as time away from your pet, make it a joint venture. If your goal is to move your body more, your pet is the ultimate accountability partner.
- The Shared Goal: Move with intention for 20 minutes a day.
- Actionable Advice: Make this a sustainable daily ritual. This isn’t just a walk; it’s a “Together-ness Trek.” If you’re doing yoga, let your cat weave through your legs or your dog lie on the mat next to you. If you’re hiking, focus on the rhythm of your feet matching their paws.
- The Communicator’s View: Animals don’t exercise to “lose weight”; they move to explore and release energy. When you exercise with them, you tap into their joy. I often hear pets express that they feel most “in sync” with their humans when they are moving through the world together.
3. The Power of the “Shared Pause”: Meditating Together
Many people find meditation difficult because their minds are too noisy. This is where your pet is your greatest teacher. Animals live in a permanent state of “Zen.”
- The Shared Goal: Five minutes of daily silence and grounding.
- Actionable Advice: You don’t need a special pillow. Simply sit on the floor with your pet. Place one hand on your heart and one hand on them. Close your eyes and try to match your breathing to theirs.
- The Communicator’s View: In my sessions, pets often tell me they feel “shut out” when their humans are stressed. Meditating together creates an energetic “tether.” You’ll find that your pet settles down almost instantly when you lower your frequency, creating a pocket of peace in your home that lasts all day.
4. Positive Affirmations: Speaking Love into the Air
The words we speak carry a vibration. If you are constantly criticizing yourself, your pet feels that “heavy” energy. They don’t know the words, but they feel the “grey” tone of self-doubt.
- The Shared Goal: Use positive affirmations to brighten the home’s atmosphere.
- Actionable Advice: Speak your affirmations out loud to your pet. Tell them, “We are healthy. We are loved. We are safe. We are capable.” Focus on building this daily habit to keep the vibration of your living space high and happy.
- The Communicator’s View: Animals are incredibly literal with energy. When you say, “I am strong” while petting your dog, they take that strength into their own field. It turns your self-improvement into a “house-improvement.”
How to “Listen” for Their Response
When you speak an affirmation or set a goal with your pet, they will respond—just not in English. To hear them, you must use your “sensory ears.” After you speak your intention:
- Watch the Breath: Do they take a deep sigh or a “release” breath? This is a sign of agreement and relaxation.
- Observe the Eyes: Do they soften their gaze or blink slowly at you? This is the “soul-hug” of the animal world.
- Feel the Weight: Does their body become heavier or more settled against you? This means they are anchoring the energy you just created.
- The “Check-In”: If they get up and walk away, don’t be discouraged! They may simply be moving that new energy through the house.
It’s Easier Than You Think
The beauty of including your pet in your goals is that they don’t care about “perfection.” If you miss a day of yoga, they won’t judge you—they’ll just be happy to see you the next day. By incorporating them into these small, daily moments, you move away from seeing them as a “responsibility” and start seeing them as a soul-partner.
When we treat our animals as stakeholders in our happiness, our entire lives begin to feel more supported and connected.
What Is Your Pet’s True Vision for Your Life Together?
While these tips are a wonderful way to start, every animal is an individual with their own specific soul-path and needs. Your dog might be craving more mental “work,” while your cat might be trying to tell you about a subtle physical discomfort that’s holding them back.
If you want to move beyond general goals and discover exactly what your pet needs from you right now, I would love to help.
